Akron Movement

I quicky put some ideas together for something I’m calling the Akron Movement.

I am SO into the idea of getting people to engage with politics and realize that they have the power to make the world what they want it to be.

Additionally, there is a deep level of hopelessness in rust belt cities like Akron. Murders and drug use are exploding. I truly believe it is because the Democrats who run these cities have abandoned the actual people of their cities. They all have a myopic plan of gentrification where wealthy people move into their cities. And then poor people just magically disappear. I’m not being hyperbolic here. I TRULY believe politicians have a back of mind idea where poor people will just disappear if enough wealthy people show up.

Not only is this cynical and hateful and cruel, it is also completely absurd. Without livable wages where people who work can afford housing, food, healthcare and good education poor people will NEVER disappear. This is the ONLY way to fix our rust belt cities. Gentrification is nothing more than throwing a rug over dirt and disease and calling it cleaned up.

I believe local politics and community building is how it all starts. You can actually change a city. You can only put a patch on a nation the size of America.
